Oscar’s Story

Oscar’s Story

Oscar’s Story, by his mum, Dee

Oscar is 2 years old, and was born rocking an extra chromosome. I was told, after my 12 week check up and scan, that my baby had a 1 in a 105 chance of having Down syndrome .I was offered further testing, but straight away, I declined. I didn’t care if he was born with 3 heads. Nothing was ever going to change how much I loved my baby and how much I needed him. He was born at 35 weeks, and 5 days later, after bloods tests I got the news he had Trisomy 21.

At the time, I cant really remember how I felt, apart from I wanted him to be healthy and happy. But in the following days and weeks, I went through so many different emotions – happy, sad, scared, worried and lucky! Looking back now, I’m ashamed of myself for ever feeling any negative feelings, because Oscar is the best thing that’s ever happened to me and my family.

He’s the most determined little boy I have ever known he’s never gonna let anything get in his way. I would be lying if I said it’s been easy sailing! We have our down days but those days are nothing compared to all the up days we have. He is such a happy, content little boy, who’s absolutely smashing his milestones in his own time. He was walking before he turned 2, and he can sign up to 20 signs. He loves nothing more than dancing to Baby Shark at least 10 times a day!

Plus he’s also a brand ambassador to numerous clothing companies. Oscar has completely changed our lives for the better. His sisters adore him and everyone he comes in contact with literally falls in love with his happy, cheeky face. I will now, and forever, show the world how perfect he is and let them see that having an extra chromosome rocks.
